Donald "Buddy" Eugene Ward, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017. Born September 22, 1934, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late William Eugene "Gene" and Nellie Mae Parks Ward and husband of the late Sylvia Ann Jackson Ward. Buddy had a great love for his family, faith, and four-legged babies. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan and played baseball for the Donnette's for 12 years. A U. S. Air Force veteran, Buddy was also a Mason and Shriner since 1974. He served as Transportation Director for Spartanburg District 7 Schools for 30 years and was a fire inspector for the City of Spartanburg for 10 years. Survivors include his daughters, Donna W. Wooten (Ed) of Loris, SC, Linda Johnson (Darrell) of Roebuck, SC, and Hayley J. Ward of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Jimmy Johnson (Christy), Christopher Johnson (Haylee), Jeremy Wooten, and Austin Wooten; great-grandchildren, Matthew Campbell, Nicholas Campbell, and Blaire Johnson; brothers, Larry Ward (Joyce) of Spartanburg, SC and Earl Ward (Sylvia) of Melbourne, FL; sister, Carolyn W. Smith of Spartanburg, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Sheryl Ann Ward; and sister, Shirley Ann Ward. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Randy Lewis. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908 online at www.stjude.org.
