Joe Billy Hipp, 86, husband of Doris Miller Hipp, died Monday, February 22, 2016 at Spartanburg Medical Center after a brief illness. Born August 25, 1929, in Inman, SC, Bill was the son of the late Inez Ramsey and John Terry Hipp. Bill was a member of Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church, in the Walnut Grove Community, where he served many years as Deacon and later as Elder. Bill served honorably in the U. S. Army and retired from the South Carolina National Guard after 34 years and attaining the rank of Command Sergeant Major. Bill retired from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal as Account Executive and later from Spartanburg County where he worked as Chief Bailiff in the Court system. Bill also served on the Forestry Commission for a number of years. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his son, Joel C. Hipp and his wife Audrey of Cumming, GA; his daughter, Julie Hipp Sill and her husband Greg of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Merry Hunter Hipp, Palmer Hipp, Florian Sill, and Alicia Brooks and her husband Matthew. He was predeceased by two sisters, Betty Hipp White and Bonnie Hipp Powell. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2016, at Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Reverend Richard Thomas and the Reverend David Sanders. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In remembrance of Bill, memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. The family is at the home.
