Zerno Evin Martin, Jr., 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, January 9, 2016, at his home. Born December 18, 1933 in Mullins, SC, he was the son of the late Zerno Evin Martin, Sr. and Nell Taylor Martin. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Orangeburg High School, The University of South Carolina (Columbia) and the Charlotte Memorial Hospital (Hospital Administration Program). He also honorably served his county in the U. S. Army. He moved to Spartanburg in 1961 to take a leadership role with Spartanburg General Hospital. What followed was a 35 year career as senior vice president. He retired in 1993 and then consulted with SRHS Foundation until 2013, giving him 50 years of service with Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System. Zerno was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, enjoyed sporting events at USC (Columbia and Upstate) and Wofford College, and was a member and lifelong supporter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He was a dedicated supporter of USC Upstate Nursing Program. Surviving are his daughter, Catherine Diehl Martin; son, Zerno Evin Martin, III (Kristie); grandsons, Joshua Michael Carter (Trish) and Zachary Moore; the mother of his children, Virginia S. Martin; brother, Jack Taylor Martin (Alice McCall); and longtime friend and partner, Elsie Ruth Wright. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by a brother, James Frank Martin, MD (Kay Cox). Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 309 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul M. Peterson and the Rev. Todd Walter.
