Yvonne Mayton Hughes, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, January 1, 2023, at her home. Born December 22, 1941, in Roanoke Rapids, NC, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Andrew and Mary Alice Pelkey Mayton and the wife of the late William R. Hughes Sr.
Yvonne worked at Butte Knitting Mill for 21 years, then stepped away to take care of her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the highlight of her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Melinda H. Keller and Lori H. Wilkie-Jones (Johnny) all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Terra Finley (Sam), Chris Buckwalter (Barb), Angele James, Erika Hughes, William Riley Hughes III, Danielle Hughes, Heather Locke (Jacob) and Dustin Wilkie (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb, Dominic, Anthony, Landon Riley, Jared, Ella, Alyssa, Bentley, Chyanne, Lucas, Kylie, Makenzie Grace, Callie Hope, and Caroline; her brother, Joe Mayton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, William Riley “Bill” Hughes Jr., son-in-law, Terry W. Keller, sister, Maurine M. Hedgepeth, and brothers, Thomas Ira Mayton, George Mayton, Richard Mayton, Sr. and J.W. Mayton.
Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 and at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC. Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2023, at the Chapel, conducted by The Rev. John Petty III. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC 29063.
