Yelton Hames Jr., 78, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, August 8, 2022 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 3, 1944 in Chesnee, SC, he was the son of the late Yelton Hames and Catherine Roe Hames Hines.
A US Army veteran, Mr. Hames served in the Vietnam War. Yelton was retired from International Paper. He loved to fish, hunt, and watch wrestling. As a proud grandfather, he adored his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Jean Barnette Hames of the home, their daughters, Angie Brown (Joe) of Boiling Springs, SC, and Milisa Mitchell (Michael) of Tennessee; grandchildren, Jackson Cooper, Mackenzie Cooper, Dakota Mitchell, and Cheyenne Mitchell; siblings, Gerald Hames (Gail) of Chesnee, SC, Steve Hames (Joy)of Florida and Susie Upton (Jimmy) of North Carolina; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald Hames.
Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Friday, August 12, 2022 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by The Rev. Jason Metcalf. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.
