Wilma Hester

Wilma Wood Hester, 82, of Spartanburg, rejoiced as she joined hands with her husband and son at the gate with Jesus on Friday, October 21, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 14, 1929, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late John Clarence and Clarice Gore Wood, and wife of the late Gerald M. Hester. Mrs. Hester was retired from Sears Roebuck Co., a former textile employee in the Clifton area, and a member of First Baptist Church of Valley Falls. She loved western square dancing and enjoyed all the activities at Park Place Assisted Living, especially helping organize the vesper worship service at 4:00 PM on Sunday. She and her husband also loved to travel to the mountains of Tennessee. Survivors include her brothers, C. H. Wood (Phyllis) and William Haskell Wood (Nancy); sisters, Vivian W. French (Bill) and Jean W. Donald (John, a special brother-in-law who was like a brother); sister-in-law, Polly Gossett (Bobby); and special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Darrell Keith Hester; and a brother, Rev. Joe Dean Wood. Visitation will be 1:45-2:45 PM Sunday, October 23, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Rusher, the Rev. Joe Dempsey, and eulogist Tawan Smith. A private burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary escort is the staff and employees of Park Place Assisted Living.
