William Riley “W. R.” Hughes, 82, of Spartanburg, SC died Monday, June 28, 2021, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 8, 1939 in Shelbyville, TN, he was the son of the late Frederick Lee Hughes and Lillie Gay Olive Hughes.
A. U. S. Marine Veteran, Mr. Hughes was a retired welder with Siemens and supervisor with Butte Knitting Mill. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, line dancing, playing the guitar, singing, and was a member of the original Country Time Club.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Yvonne Mayton Hughes; daughters, Melinda H. Keller and Lori H. Wilkie-Jones (Johnny) all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Terra Finley (Sam), Chris Buckwalter (Barb), Angele James (Nick), Erika Hughes, William Riley Hughes III, Danielle Hughes, Heather Locke (Jake) and Dustin Wilkie (Lauren); great-grandchildren, Dylan, Caleb, Dominic, Anthony, Landon Riley, Jared, Ella, Alyssa, Bentley, Chyanne, Lucas, Kylie, Makenzie Grace, Callie Hope, and Caroline, and sister, Priscilla June Knight (Ashby) of Richmond, VA. He was predeceased by a son, William Riley “Bill” Hughes Jr.; brothers, Paul Frederick Hughes and James Clifford Hughes, and son-in-law, Terry W. Keller.
Visitation will be held 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, July 2, 2021 at the Chapel by The Rev. John Petty III. Burial will be Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1247 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC 29063.
