William Carey (Bud) Wheatley, Jr., 90, of 110 Summit Hills Drive, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born November 22, 1918, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late William Carey and Louise Burroughs Wheatley. The husband of the late Ethel Saville Wheatley, they together owned The Lemon Tree in Spartanburg for 25 years. A 1936 graduate of E. C. Glass High School in Lynchburg, VA, he received a Bachelor or Arts degree from Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville, VA, in 1940. He retired from Milliken and Company after many years of faithful service and was also the owner of Wheatley Sales Associates. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Major. He was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, the Spartanburg Shrine Club, and was a Mason, both York and Scottish rites. Survivors include three sons, Robert Wheatley of Richmond, VA, William Wheatley of Spartanburg, and David (Buckwheat) Wheatley and his wife Donna of Inman; and a daughter, Meg Clennan and her husband Kelley of Mechanicsville, VA. Bud was blessed with three grandchildren, Allen and his wife Patty, Christopher and his wife Stephanie, all of Boiling Springs, and Amanda Clennan of Mechanicsville, VA; and four beautiful great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Coleman, Elise, and Tripp Wheatley, all of Boiling Springs. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 7, 2009, at The Episcopal Church of the Advent, conducted by the Rev. J. Edward Morris and the Rev. Sue Perrin. Committal service will be in the Cloister Columbarium with military honors. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish and Community Life Center.
