William Ware

William "Bill" James Ware, 91, of Chesnee, SC, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born September 5, 1923, in Cherokee Springs, SC, he was the son of the late Lawrence Christian Ware and Annie Josephine Warren Ware, and husband of the late Helen Georgia Rogers Ware. A World War II U. S. Army veteran and two-time Purple Heart recipient, Mr. Ware also served for 30 years in the Naval Seabee Reserves. He was a member of Cherokee Springs Baptist Church, retired from Southern Bell, and was a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers. Following his retirement, he was owner of Ware Services. Survivors include his son, Ronald Christian Ware (Kathy) of Cherokee Springs, SC; grandsons, Ryan Ware of Nashville, TN, Chan Poteat (Katie) of Inman, SC, and Chris Poteat; and great-grandsons, Chandler Poteat and Alex Poteat. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a daughter, Charlene Robertson; brothers, Jesse Ware and Joseph Ware; and sisters, Vivian Williams, Nell Tomko, and Annie Lou Ware. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 PM Monday, September 29, 2014, at Cherokee Springs Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Michael Boyter. Burial with military rites by the U. S. Military Honor Guard will be in the church cemetery. Honorary escort will be members of the Southern Bell Pioneers.
