William Trowell

William Joseph Trowell, Sr., 80, of 112 Cameron Drive, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 21, 1930, in Pacolet Mills, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Alice Lancaster Trowell. He was a graduate of Spartanburg High School and Furman University. Joe spent his business years with Reeves Brothers, Inc., having held various management positions in Spartanburg, Greenville, and Chesnee, retiring as vice president of the Apparel Textile Division. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Dot" Kirkpatrick Trowell; a son, William Joseph Trowell, Jr. of Spartanburg; a grandson, Douglas Kirkpatrick "Kirk" Trowell of Burnsville, NC; a step-grandson, Michael McBride of Asheville, NC; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Lynne Trowell of Columbus, NC; a sister, Ruth Trowell Watson and husband Bobby of Greenville; a brother, John Maynard Trowell and wife Janet of Wilmington, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas "Tommy" Kirkpatrick Trowell. In earlier years, he was very active in the United Way of Spartanburg, serving on the board of directors and on boards of several of its agencies. As long as his health allowed, he was an avid fisherman, golfer, and gardener, always living life positively and to the very fullest. Joe was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, having served on various committee's during the years. He was also a member of the Paul Morris Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 2:00-3:45 PM Monday, May 9, 2011 in the Fellowship Hall of Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM in the church sanctuary, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Steve Holler, the Rev. Heather Humphries, and the Rev. A. Mickey Fisher. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Honorary escorts are members of the Paul Morris Sunday School Class.
