William Strauss, Jr.

William Franklin "Bill" Strauss, Jr. 71, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 9, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born May 30, 1943, in Charleston, SC, he was the son of the late William Franklin Strauss, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Leahy Strauss, and husband of the late, Lesley Orander Strauss. A veteran of the Army National Guard, Mr. Strauss attended Clemson University. He retired from AT&T after 30 years of service, was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, Spartanburg Lions Club, and former member of the Rotary Club of Easley. Survivors include his daughters, Michele Strauss Ancell (Thomas) of Spartanburg, SC, and Heather Strauss Muirheid (Will) of Hanahan, SC; four grandchildren, Hadley and Matthew Ancell and Wyatt and Paisley Muirheid; brother, James Joseph Strauss of Charleston, SC; sister, Susan Strauss Morris (Choppy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and the mother of his daughters, Judith Strauss Gambill. Visitation will be 11:30-12:45 PM Thursday, November 13, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, at the church, conducted by The Rev. Joanne R. Hull. Burial, with military rites by the SC National Guard Honors Team, will be in Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Rd., Easley, SC 29642.
