W. Leonard Still, 97, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, Spartanburg. Born on October 10, 1920, he was the son of the late Reddick Bowman and Ethel Folk Still and was predeceased by his beloved wife, Betty Blair Still. He was a much loved husband, father, teacher, and soldier. Mr. Still went from Wofford College with a 2nd Lieutenant's commission to Camp Joseph Robinson on his call to duty during WWII. Promoted to Major, he was awarded the American Theatre Ribbon, the European Ribbon with 4 Battle Stars and the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service. After the war, he established, with his brother, The Still Agency (Real Estate and Insurance) which was in business for some 30 years. He taught Real Estate at Spartanburg Technical College for over 50 years. He was President of the Realtors Education Foundation, President of the Spartanburg Board of Realtors, Lifetime Member of the Realtors Institute Board of Directors, Adjunct Professor at the University of South Carolina, Twice Spartanburg Realtor of the Year, and South Carolina Realtor of the Year. In the community, he served on the Spartanburg County Board of Education for eight years, the Spartanburg Development Authority, and was a member of the Mayor's Advisory Council. Additionally, he was a charter member of the Spartanburg Civitan Club. Mr. Still was a member of First Presbyterian Church since the early 1950's. He served on the Board of Deacons and as Chair for two years. He was elected Elder and eventually Clerk of Session. (Elder Emeritus at the time of his death). One of his great joys was teaching the Men's Bible Class for many years. He was on many other committees of the church over the years. Survivors include son, William Leonard Still, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC; daughters, Betsy Still Smith of Brevard, NC; Susan Fripp Still of Marietta, GA; grandson, Robert Harvin Smith, Jr. (Nicole); granddaughters, Gloria Blair Sarbacker (Lloyd) and Jennifer Still Burton (Jason); and six great grandsons, Lee, Lloyd, Mark Matthew, Whit, and William. The family will receive friends in the Parlor at 1:30 - 2:45 PM Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at 3:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. Joanne R. Hull.
