William Boyd Porter, Jr., 74, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, October 10, 2015, at his home. Born June 7, 1941, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late William B. Porter, Sr. and Lois Lorraine Johnson Porter. A graduate of East Tennessee State University, Mr. Porter served in the U. S. Air Force Reserves and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and retired from Spartan Industrial. A former volunteer with St. Paul United Methodist Church Boy Scouts of America and Camp Bob Hardin, he was an Order of the Arrow recipient and member of St. John Masonic Lodge #333. Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Patricia Winters Porter; children, William B. "Will" Porter III (Bobbi) of Greer, SC and Kathryn Porter Hooten (Mark) of Asheville, NC; granddaughters, Emily Porter and Molly Porter; sister, Carolyn Porter Schrader (Joe) of Greensboro, NC; aunt and uncle, Sonya and Don Ellis of Huntsville, AL; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Visitation will follow the service at the Chapel. Burial, at a later date, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, c/o Greenville Hospital System, 701 Grove Road ISC-3rd Floor, Greenville, SC 29605; or a charity of one's choice.
