William Pettit

William Dogan Pettit, 92, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 25, 1923, in Pauline, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Ozane Pettit and May Allen Pettit and the last surviving member of his immediate family. A U. S. Army Air Corps veteran, Mr. Pettit was an Administrative Assistant for the Civil Service, a seasonal employee with H & R Block, and worked in the office of the Piedmont Interstate Fair during Fair week. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he was a former deacon. He also taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Director, and was treasurer for the Royal Sunday School Class. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Taylor Pettit; children, William Frederick Pettit (Yvonne), Andrea Pettit Shurburtt (Greg), and Tina Pettit Sapp (Richard), all of Spartanburg, SC; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Amy P. Wood and Myrtis P. Pope; and brother, Donald O. Pettit. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Morningside Baptist Church, by the Rev. Matthew Rayburn and the Rev. Chris Kurtz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
