William Peterson

Loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather: William (Bill) John Peterson, beloved husband of Linda (Darnell) Peterson, passed away on March 31, 2015 after a 7 year valiant fight against lung cancer. He inspired many, as he defied survival expectations with great determination. He continued to live and love until the very end. Bill was born October 3, 1933, in Eveleth, Minnesota to the late William August and Ina Eliina (Grym) Peterson. He attended schools in Superior and Janesville, Wisconsin and The DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Bill and Linda were united in marriage on September 26, 1959, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Rockford, Illinois and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 2014. They relocated to South Carolina in 1984. In Rockford, Bill was employed by Arthur Murray Dance Studio and National Lock Hardware. He was manager of Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Sheboygan and Racine, Wisconsin. After relocating to South Carolina, he was employed by National Lock Cabinet Hardware, Beverage Air, and Clarkson Industrial Contractors. Bill's hobbies included, antiquing, gardening, and ballroom dancing. He and Linda were active in several Spartanburg area Ballroom Dance Clubs and Hendersonville, NC Dance Club. Bill is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Linda; daughter, Debbie (Ed) Chapman of Tryon, NC; granddaughter, Samantha D. Peterson; great-grandchildren, Chloe Elizabeth and John Hayden of Boiling Springs, SC; and nieces and nephews in Rockford, IL and Spokane, WA. Also surviving are his feline companions, Mr. Inky and Ms. Mitzi. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by infant son, Mark; and son, John Robert in 2014. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday, April 3, 2015, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
