William Moore, Sr.

February 2, 1922 — March 23, 2013

The ways of right-living people glow with light; the longer they live, the brighter they shine. Proverbs 4:18 Mr. William Walter "Bill" Moore Sr., 91, of Spartanburg, passed peacefully into his Savior's arms on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born February 2, 1922, in York, SC, he was the son of the late John and Pearl Moore and husband of the late Doris Dolamae Whitehead Moore. Missing him until they meet again are: his daughter, Gaye Frady (Gerald); his son, Bill Moore; his grandchildren, Doug Frady, Angela Arce (Rick), Melanie Rhyne (Bill), and Nate Moore; his great-grandchildren, Brandy, Amber, Arron, Adrianna, Alaina, Ethan, Emily and Will; great-great grandson, Garrett; and his siblings, Charles Moore (Janice), Frances Taylor, and Virginia Wilkerson. "Bill" Moore was the prototypical family patriarch. A member of the "Greatest Generation", he raised and led his family, served his country, operated his own business, and engaged people with the highest regard for Christian principles and values. He served proudly in the U. S. Army during WWII in the 42nd "Rainbow Division". He was awakened Dec. 7, 1941 to the horror of attack on Pearl Harbor, fought bravely in many theaters in Europe, and experienced joy of victory while in Austria after leading his troops thru Germany via the Southern Invasion of France where he was battlefield commissioned. He was the owner/operator of Moore's Automobile's, a member of Arcadia First Baptist Church, and former Sunday School Superintendent and deacon. An outdoorsman, Bill enjoyed many hours of fishing with family and playing golf. His family will miss his unconditional love, calm demeanor, and manner in which he shared the wisdom he had gained from his incredible life here on earth. Visitation will be 1:00-2:30 PM Saturday, March 30, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Keith Davis. His burial with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
