William Mills McDonald, 87 of Spartanburg, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024. William was born on January 07, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late William Francis McDonald and Caroline Dance McDonald.
Education played a significant role in William's life; he graduated from The US Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1960. His thirst for knowledge and academic achievements were commendable. William's passion for aviation led him to a successful career in the US Navy, where he served his country with honor. His expertise and skill in the air earned him the respect of his peers’ superiors alike. After the Navy William had a long career with Milliken. William continued to lead a fulfilling life filled with various interests and hobbies such as golfing, running marathons, hunting, traveling, and collecting firearms. He was also an avid Clemson Tiger fan as well as a devoted member of North Point Church in Gaffney, SC.
In his personal life, William was surrounded by loved ones who meant the world to him. He is survived by his devoted wife; Teresa Huffstetler McDonald, daughters Leslie McDonald and Sherri English (Jon), sons Mike McDonald (Lisa) and Steven McCraw, along with a host of grandchildren: April McDonald, Lauren McDonald, Michael McDonald, Kristin Coate(Jon), Brandon Gibson, Timberley Wyatt, Taley Wyatt; one great-grandchild Myles McDonald; sister Anne McDonald Ellis. William was preceded in death by his father William McDonald, mother Caroline Dance McDonald, his first wife ; Joanne Pester McDonald, and a daughter Brandy McCraw.
A visitation in honor of William Mills McDonald will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024, starting at 2:00 PM at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel located at 2075 E. Main Street Spartanburg, SC 29307. Following the visitation will be a Memorial Service with Navy Military honors beginning at 3:00 PM to celebrate the remarkable life of this extraordinary man. William will be remembered for his bravery as a pilot, his dedication to serving his country, and most importantly, for being a beloved husband, father, grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and courage that will continue to inspire generations to come.
