William Earl McArthur, 90, of Glenn Springs, died Thursday, October 27, 2011, at his home. Born October 2, 1921, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late William Ellis and Estelle West McArthur. Mr. McArthur was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army. He was employed for 41 years in the construction industry, most recently with Fiske-Carter Construction Company. He was a member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, a mason, loved working with wood and building cabinets. Earl was recognized by Spartanburg County Red Cross for saving a person's life in 1985. Survivors include his beloved wife, Margaret Evelyn Eubanks McArthur; son, Michael Earl (Lynn) McArthur of Spartanburg; daughter, Cynthia McArthur (Michael) West of Pauline; grandchildren, Amy (Shane) Martin of Pauline, Kelly (Robbie) Thomas of Glenn Springs, and Clay and Tyler West, both of Pauline; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Aiden Martin, and Lauren McArthur Thomas, all of Pauline. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit and Mr. Kevin Horres. Burial will be in Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Visitation will follow in the Glenn Springs Family Life Center.
