Bill Hardin, of Prosperity, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Agape Senior Vista in Rock Hill, SC. Born August 31, 1933, in Clifton, SC, Bill was a longtime resident of Spartanburg; and although he retired to Lake Murray, he always had a great love for Spartanburg and his family and friends there. Survivors include his loving wife, Janet Hayes Hardin with whom he shared 50 years of marriage, his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Charlie Bowers, a beloved grandson and granddaughter, Chuck and Jordan Bowers, of Fort Mill, SC, all of whom he was most proud. He is also survived by a sister, Virginia Crocker of Spartanburg, and two brothers, Dick Hardin of Spartanburg, and the Reverend John Hardin of Simpsonville, SC, and many treasured cousins, nieces and nephews. Bill was the youngest of 13 children and was predeceased by his parents, C. D. Hardin and Lois Perry Hardin, and by six sisters and three brothers. Bill was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, Haynes Shop. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved people and enjoyed good times shared with family and friends. This was evident by his many associations over the years with the Spartanburg County Gamecock Club, Forestview Masonic Lodge, Oak Grove Baptist Church, Chapin Western Squares, Newberry County Meals on Wheels, Organizer and Director of Christian Athletic League. He also volunteered his time to coach church and city athletic teams. Bill was an ardent supporter of Gamecock athletics and most especially football. Bill enjoyed photography, history, genealogy, racing, softball and spending time with his grandchildren. As an avid fisherman, he enjoyed being on the water whether in his boat or on his dock because fishing and catching the big one brought him a great deal of joy. Bill will be remembered for his quick and bodacious smile and how he always remained young at heart. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, Spartanburg, SC. Services will be conducted by his nephew, Reverend Clyde Hardin, and his nephew by marriage, Reverend Edgar Foster. The interment will follow immediately at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
