William Eaton

William L. "Bill" Eaton, 77, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, June 23, 2016, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born April 10, 1939, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late William Richard and Ruby Hill Eaton. A U. S. Army veteran, he also served with the National Guard 1/178th Field Artillery. Bill loved his Lord, family, and friends. He was an avid camper, enjoyed NASCAR, and was a Clemson Tiger Fan. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School, the SC Criminal Justice Academy, and Spartanburg Methodist College. A Public Safety officer, he retired from the City of Spartanburg as a sergeant after 25 years of service. Bill organized and was a baritone with The Challengers Quartet for many, many years and was known as "the singing sergeant". He was also a member of River Hills Baptist Church, a former Sunday School teacher, choir member, and a deacon. Additional civic memberships include American Legion Post #45 and Lone Oak Lodge #372 AFM where he was a 32nd Degree Mason and received his 50 year pin. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ann Hill Eaton; daughter, Lisa Eaton Bohn of Spartanburg, SC; son, William Todd Eaton (Laurie S.) of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Gabriel Hazel, Caitlin Hazel, Gideon Bohn, and Joshua Bohn, all of Spartanburg, SC, and Talia Eaton of Littleton, CO; great-grandson, Noah Hazel of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Janice Eaton Engler of Millsboro, DE; and special niece, Martha Hawkins and family of Millsboro, DE. Masonic rites will be at 1:00-1:15 PM with visitation from 1:15-2:45 PM Monday, June 27, 2016, at River Hills Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Kent Smith and the Rev. James B. Carter. Burial, with honors by the City of Spartanburg Honor Guard, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary escort will be retired officers of the Spartanburg Public Safety Department and members of Inman American Legion Post #45.
