William Dale Worthy

William Dale “Hardrock” Worthy, 65, of Pacolet, died Monday, April 22, 2024, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 17, 1958, in Spartanburg, the son of the late William Harry and Mary Lee McIntyre Worthy.

He was an active member of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon. He was a member of Spartanburg City Fire Department for thirty-two and a half years where he served as a training coordinator, Training Officer, Shift Captain, Assistant Chief for seventeen years and Interim Chief twice. Dale was an active member of the Pacolet Fire Department for fifty years, where he served in various positions, such as Lieutenant, Captain and Chief. He was Chief for eight years with the Pacolet Mills Fire Department before the consolidation of the Pacolet community fire departments. He also served on various local and state fire service committees throughout his career.

Surviving is his wife of 39 years, Roxie Caldwell Worthy; sons, Jason Worthy (Samantha) of Spartanburg, William Worthy of Gramling; grandchildren, Abel Worthy, Rowan Worthy, Chloe McCullough and John McCullough all of Spartanburg; and a very close friend, Daryl Padgett, who was like a brother.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, 385 Stone Street, Pacolet Mills, SC 29372. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm (noon) Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Taylor and the Rev. Norman Band, with reflections by Darryl Padgett, Carter Jones, Ricky Brackens and Joe Palmer. Burial, with fire department honors, will follow at Pacolet Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the PMR or the TLTC funds at Pacolet Mills Baptist Church.
