William Walker

June 13, 1936 — April 3, 2013

William "Bill" N. Walker, 76, of Inman, SC, passed away Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. Bill was born in Bristol, VA, to the late Roy Walker and Ida Belle Bowers on June 13, 1936. He grew up on the banks of the South Holston River in Bristol, TN. After high school, Bill joined the U. S. Army, Airborne Division. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University, majoring in geography, and did his graduate work at the University of Arizona. Bill taught in Phoenix, AZ for twenty years. Bill loved the outdoors and had a passion for fly-fishing. He fished the great trout streams of Yellowstone and the Tetons, and he and Myrna traveled there each summer. He was an avid golfer in his younger years, and he enjoyed playing some of the country's finest courses. Bill had an irreverent sense of humor and regaled family and friends with his own versions of many well-known songs. He was a liberal thinker and always interested in politics. He had a wealth of knowledge about many subjects. Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Myrna Sickmon Walker; his daughter, Emily Walker of Lancaster, PA and her children, Alyssa and Jaden. He is also survived by a half-brother, Anthony Myers; and a half-sister, Gloria Tester, both of Bristol, TN. As Bill wished, there will be no services. At a later date, his ashes will be scattered off the coast of Key West, one of his favorite places.
