William Benedict

William Ashely Benedict, 87, of 5 Lisa Drive, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at his home. Born March 1, 1922, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late DeLonie and Sally Alma Wall Benedict and the husband of the late Mildred Wood Benedict. He was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church of Greenville and a U.S. Navy Veteran. Survivors include two daughters, Linda A. Benedict Powers of Gastonia, NC, and Julia Marlene Benedict of Greenville; a brother, Frank Benedict of Roebuck; a granddaughter, Wendy L. Helton of Oklahoma City, OK; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Helton of Oklahoma City, OK. He was predeceased by sisters, Emily B. Fleming and Edith B. Barrett; and brothers, Leon Benedict, Sr. and Louie Benedict. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 6, 2009, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bark Avenue Dog Salon, 607 East Garrison Boulevard, Gastonia, NC 28054.
