William Thompson "Tommy" Alexander, 61, of Glenn Springs, died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born January 2, 1950, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Christine Thompson Alexander of Glenn Springs and the late C. Bernard Alexander. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, Tommy was a member of Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church where he served on the Building Committee. He was a master cabinetmaker and loved camping and gardening. In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Ann Mathis Alexander of the home; a son, William Chandler Alexander of Houma, LA; stepsons, Craig, Clint, and Clay Mathis, all of Cowpens; nine step-grandchildren; one great-step-grandchild; and brothers, Joe and Robbie Alexander of Atlanta, GA and Andy Alexander of Glenn Springs. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, July 20, 2011, in Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. B. E. Pettit and the Rev. Michael Adams. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will follow in the church Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glenn Springs Presbyterian Church, Family Life Center Building Fund, PO Box 279, Pauline, SC 29374. The families are at their respective homes.
