Willaminta Norris Hight, 92, of Spartanburg, SC died Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in her home surrounded by family. Born October 29, 1929 in Pike County, GA, she was the daughter of the late William Holloway and Ruth Hall Norris and the wife of the late Robert Anderson Hight Jr.
Willaminta earned a master’s degree from the University of Georgia in Food Science. She and Bob met while in Athens. They were married at Fincher UMC in Meansville, GA in 1952.
In her early years of marriage, she was a teacher in the Atlanta area. She transitioned to becoming a homemaker and raised her four children. Willaminta enjoyed volunteering n her children’s schools, leading Girl Scouts, and delivering Mobile Meals. As her husband, Bob, received promotions and increased responsibilities she managed raising her family in seven homes in five states. She lived in Spartanburg since 1965.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Hight Harris (Raymond) and Jennifer Jennings; her sons, Dick Hight (Cindy), and David Hight (Karen); grandchildren, Richard Harris, Justin Harris (Jennifer), Ryan Hight (Ali), Kelci Hight Humphries (Michael), Grant Jennings and Matt Jennings; great grandchildren, Addison Harris, Nora Hight, Henry Hight; her siblings, George Norris (Ellen), Rachel McClelland (Charles), Ruth Norris Faulds (Paul), and Bill Norris (Judy); and her brother-in-law, Murray Anderson. She was also predeceased by a sister, Virginia Norris Anderson.
Visitation will be 12:45 – 1:45 PM Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM at the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Nowell Copley. A private family committal will be held.
