Wilhelmina Shinta

June 26, 1931 — April 4, 2014

Wilhelmina Mallard Shinta, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at her home. Born June 26, 1931, in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Alonzo and Sadie Louise Schriver Mallard. A graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing, Mrs. Shinta was a devoted nurse. She retired from nursing having served at Spartanburg Regional and Mary Black Hospitals. She loved her flower garden, birds, genealogy, and Civil War history. She had a thirst for knowledge and a love for life! Survivors include her children, Anthony D. "Tony" Shinta (Pamela) of Lyman, SC, Richard Neal Shinta (Ninamarie) of Laurens, SC, and Joseph M. Shinta (Dana) of Boiling Springs, SC; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Mallard of Charleston, SC; and a large number of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2014, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Andy Case. Visitation will follow at the graveside. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to John de la Howe School "SC's Home for Children", 192 Gettys Road, McCormick, SC 29835.
