Weldon Dennis

January 30, 1923 — February 22, 2012

Weldon Dennis, 89 years old, of 1705 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC, passed away at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, February 23, 2012, after a lengthy illness. He was born the son of Mattie and Lem Dennis of Coahoma, TX, was the brother of Faye Dennis Odgers, and Dee Dennis, who all preceded him in death. He was married to Jessie Hester of Big Spring, TX in 1947. Surviving Weldon are his wife, Jessie; son, Bruce Dennis (wife Paula) of Fort Worth, TX; daughter, Linda Mallis (husband Stephen) of New York City, and daughter, Ceci Robinson (husband Benji) of Boiling Springs, SC. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jay Johnson (wife, Cynthia), Joshua Johnson (wife Ronnie), Cramer Robinson, Jessie Robinson, Lesli Hammer (husband Colt), Darren Mallis, Brandon Mallis (wife Rachel), and Justin Mallis; and seven great grandchildren, Riley Johnson, Reagan Johnson, Caden Hammer, Ethan Greenberg, Jordan Mallis, Zachary Mallis and Jayden Mallis. Weldon was a Christian and had been an active member of Southside Baptist Church in Spartanburg since 1975, serving as Deacon, Treasurer, and in other capacities. He made numerous mission trips with Caribbean Outreach. He was a World War II veteran, surviving the Battle of the Bulge in Europe. After years of working at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth TX, managing food and student services, his career moved into sales and he was based in Texas, Maryland, Missouri, Georgia, and South Carolina. He retired in 1989 from the Beverage-Air Company, only to return at their request, part time, for an additional thirteen years. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Zhadkevich (Dr. Z), Dr. David Ike, Dr. Gordon France, the nurses on 4Heart and the nurses in CVRU at Spartanburg Regional Hospital for their tender and superb care. Per his wishes, he will be cremated with a private family entombment. The family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 PM Saturday, February 25, 2012, at Southside Baptist Church in the church parlor. Memorial Services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson and the Rev. Dr. M. B. Morrow, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
