Walter L. Witherspoon, 62, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 15, 2015. He was born June 16, 1952 to the late Walter Lewis Witherspoon, Sr. and Mary Abernathy Witherspoon. He was retired from Southern Railways and was a proud member of Northbrook Baptist Church. His wife, children, family, lifelong, and mountain friends were the most important people in his life and he was the happiest surrounded by loved ones in his cherished mountains. His genuine joy for life was flashed through his vibrant smile and he never failed to light up a room. His contagious laugh was a sweet song and his encouraging words were never left unheard. His optimism and kindness were those to be envied and his loving hugs were those to be remembered. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Jan Judy Witherspoon; daughter, Amy C. Witherspoon of Spartanburg; son, Jacob Witherspoon (Kellen) of Inman; sister, Nancy W. Smith, of Spartanburg; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 6:00 - 7:00 PM Monday, May 18, 2015 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A sunset celebration of his life graveside service will follow at 7:30 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
