Walter Richard Vieth, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at Windsor House in Spartanburg. Born May 16, 1919, in Ridgefield Park, NJ, he was the son of the late W. Richard and Rose Jacks Vieth, and husband of the late Evelyn Mae Lenz Vieth. He met his wife in 1930 when they were in Ottilie Orphanage in Jamaica, Long Island, NY and never separated until she passed in 2009. He graduated from Jamaica High School and attended New York University before enlisting in the U. S. Army on January 16, 1942. He was stationed at Camp Croft in Spartanburg and was honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed and retired from WSPA as secretary/treasurer. Much can be written about his career, his devotion to his family and his love for the big band sound, but the legacy he leaves is that he was a good man with a smile for everyone who knew him. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Surviving is his son, Richard "Rick" Vieth (Gail) of Taylors, SC; grandson, Jeremy Revis (Randi) of Travelers Rest, SC; great-grandsons, Ethan Fecht and Pete Revis; great-granddaughter, Coley Revis; nieces, Patricia Semeraro and Alice Campbell; and great-niece, Cheryl Marengi. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Friday, November 7, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. David B. Smith. A committal service will be conducted at the Chapel, prior to burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
