Walter Dean Thompson, 71, of Spartanburg, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, August 11, 2023, at Physical Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. Dean was born August 6, 1952, a son of the late Clyde Frederick Thompson and Carey Poole Thompson.
Dean was a graduate of Spartanburg High School. He was employed by Sentry Fire Service, Inc. and had a lifelong career in the fire protection business. He was a longtime member of Beaumont Baptist Church and was very active in his Sunday School Class.
Dean was predeceased by his sons, Jason Dean Thompson and Matthew Bryan Thompson. He is survived by his brothers, James Frederick Thompson (Sally) of Hanahan, SC and Dennis Wayne Thompson (Jeanne) of Spartanburg; and a sister, Faye Thompson Love (Ron) of Monroe, GA. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, conducted by the Reverend John Lee and the Reverend John Cox. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Beaumont Baptist Church, 945 Beaumont Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
