Staff Sergeant Walter Dillard Massey, 79, of 137 Hearthstone Lane, died Sunday, May 22, 2011, at his home. Born February 20, 1932, in Glendale, he was the son of the late Henry Wilburn Massey and Catherine Meeks Henson. Mr. Massey was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, the UN Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He was a member of the Church of God and a retired foreman in the textile industry. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Gregory Massey; four daughters, Marie Kirkland of Moore, Christine Eubanks of Pacolet, Rachel Hildebrandt of Pacolet, and Joyce "Joy" Moody of Fingerville; four sons, Raymond Massey of Mill Spring, NC, Robert Massey of Greenwood, Larry Massey of Fingerville, and Gerald Massey of Moore; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Massey Brown of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel.
