Walter Mason Kay, Jr., 75, of 62 Woodwind Drive, died Monday, May 11, 2009, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 20, 1933, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Walter Mason Kay, Sr. and Willie Mae Morgan Kay. He was a retired Vice-President with Smith Data Processing, a division of J M Smith Corporation, after 34 years of service. He was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church where he served as Church Treasurer for 10 years, a member of St. John's Masonic Lodge #333, a lifetime Shriner, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Doris Cannon Kay; three daughters, Donna Garber and her husband Mike of Lugoff, Robin Kay of Greenwood, and Wendy Meyer and her husband Phillip of Rocky Face, GA; a son, Toby Kay and his wife Emily of Mill Spring, NC; a brother, David W. Kay and his wife Linda of Santee; his mother-in-law, Lucile Cannon of Spartanburg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be 2:00-3:15 p.m. Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Ben Avon United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Church conducted by the Rev. Jones Brewer and Michael Garber. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ben Avon United Methodist Church Building Fund, 236 Avondale Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family will receive friends at the home.
