Walter Johnson Sr.

Walter Harvey "Bud" Johnson, Sr., 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, September 28, 2015 at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 7, 1926, in Chester, SC, he was the son of the late Horace Loftin and Aggie Lee Barnes Johnson. He was husband of the late Verna Burnett Johnson and longtime companion, of 30 plus years, to the late Sarah Swain Burnett. A United States Army veteran of World War II, serving with General Douglas McArthur, Mr. Johnson was a retired realtor and builder. He was a 1943 graduate of York High School, attended Lees-McCrae College in Banner Elk, NC, and also Clemson University. Mr. Johnson was a member of The Piedmont Sertoma Club, State and National Associations of Home Builders, State and National Associations of Realtors, and a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He was a longtime member of Carlisle Wesleyan Church and attended First Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Survivors include his son, Dr. Walter H. Johnson Jr. (Andrea) of Birmingham, AL, and daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Anne Johnson (Col. (Ret.) Robert Impellizzeri) of Moorpark, CA; granddaughters, Victoria Ellen "Vicki" Wooten (Michael) of Austin, TX, and Hilary Johnson Murrell (Matt) of Birmingham, AL; brothers, Harold Johnson of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and Ray Johnson of Rock Hill, SC. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Emily Claire Johnson; son-in-law, Dr. Kevin Ballard; sisters, Dot Bell, Edna Ford, and Gladys Meek; and brothers, Herbert Johnson, Sam Frank Johnson, and Carl Johnson. His family would like to thank Eden Terrace, Comfort Keepers, and Dr. Thomas L. Robinson for their kindness and care. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Thursday, October 8, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 11:00 AM, conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
