Walter Gordon "Uncle Bud" Holt, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, January 13, 2014, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 7, 1924, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Walter Jackson and Agnes McCauley Holt, and husband, for 56 years, of the late Ruby Mae Jennings Holt. A U. S. Army Air Force aviation fire fighter in England, France, and Germany during World War II, Mr. Holt retired from Pearson Oil Company after 42 years of service. He attended school in Saluda, NC and Spartanburg, SC, and was a former member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church and current member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Bud was very generous and loved helping people when they were in need. He had the greatest workshop full of collectibles, he loved the Atlanta Braves, classical and country music. Surviving are his sisters, Bennie Holt Harris Wilson, and her husband Claude, of Fairforest, Patricia Holt Pearson of Charleston, and Louise Holt McCarley, of Spartanburg; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church prior to the service. A Mass of Christian Burial be conducted at 12:00 noon Friday, January 17, 2014, at the church, by the Rev. Timothy M. Gahan. Burial with military rites will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC. Memorials may be made to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N.
