Walter Daniel "Dub" Ballard, 85, of 104 Whitener Avenue, Spartanburg, died Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born October 13, 1925, in Pendleton, SC, he was a son of the late Walter David and Merly Moore Ballard. He was a graduate of Wofford College and was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and the Marine Corps. Mr. Ballard retired after 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 75 years, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and member of the choir. He was a current member of Morningside Baptist Church. In addition to his wife of 65 years, Frances Williams Ballard, survivors include two sons, Jeff Ballard and wife Kay of New Prospect, and Danny Ballard and wife Cathy of Moore; four grandchildren, Danny, Eric, Tim and Tabitha; four great-grandchildren, Karen, Travis, Cassie and Carley, all of Spartanburg. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. J. Michael Hensley. Burial with military rites by the SC State Guard Honors Team will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, P.O.
