Wallace "Mitch" Mathis, Jr.

Wallace Mitchell Mathis, Jr., 77, of Boiling Springs, SC died Friday, August 13, 2021 at Spartanburg Medical Center – Mary Black Campus. Born December 20, 1943 in Converse, SC, he was the son of Eloise Seay Mathis of Cowpens, SC and the late Wallace Mitchell Mathis, Sr.

A US Army Vietnam Veteran, Mr. Mathis was formerly employed with Crown Cork and Seal and Hersey Meter Company. Mitch graduated from Cowpens High School in 1964, where he was an outstanding football player.

Along with his wife, Rita Mathis of 46 years, survivors include his brother, Mike Mathis (Sandra) of Cowpens, SC and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel, conducted by The Rev. Kenneth Cash. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
