Wallace Whitlock

Wallace Eugene "Gene" Whitlock, Sr., 71, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at his home. Born June 28, 1943, in Hattiesburg, MS, he was the son of the late Myles Wentworth Whitlock, Sr. and Florence Smarr Whitlock. A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Wofford College and a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Kappa Alpha, Mr. Whitlock remained a faithful donor to the college for many years. He also received a graduate degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and active with the American Diabetes Association. Survivors include his sons, Wallace Eugene Whitlock, Jr. (Leigh Anne) of Charlotte, NC; James Smarr Whitlock of Asheville, NC, and Jonathan Cash Whitlock of Charleston, SC; granddaughters, Camden and Collins; sisters and brother, Anne Holmes and Myles W. Whitlock, Jr., both of Spartanburg, SC, and Patricia Berry (Boyce) of Johnson City, TN; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 PM Sunday, May 24, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. David E. Nichols. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 119 Eastwood Circle, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home of Carolyn Smyth.
