William Andrew Hughes, 88, of Jonesville, SC, died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at his home. Born April 10, 1927, in Roebuck, SC, he was the son of the late Elbert Washington Hughes and Lillie Mae Boyter Hughes. A U. S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, Mr. Hughes was a former Spartanburg County Deputy Sheriff and retired as magistrate of Spartanburg County after 32 years of service with Spartanburg County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pacolet, a mason and member of Roebuck Lodge #357, a Shriner, and an elder. Surviving are his wife, Imogene Traylor Hughes; son, Raymond Alan Hughes (Virginia) of Shelby, NC; daughter, Debra Yolanda Hughes Allison (David) of Spartanburg, SC; step-children, Johnny Riddle (Janice) of Roebuck, SC, Joan Mull (Allen) of Jonesville, SC, and Brenda Edwards (Garry) of Norwood, NC; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, John Hughes and Junior Hughes; sister, Rosa Mae Harvey; and step-son, Billy Riddle. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Pacolet First Baptist Church. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, July 10, 2015, in Pacolet First Baptist Church Cemetery, by the Rev. Tommy Sparks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet First Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 310 West Main Street, Pacolet, SC 29372. The family is at the home.
