W. Hammett, Sr.

W. Charles Hammett, Sr., 91, of Moore, SC, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center Restorative Care. Born June 22, 1922, in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late Bryson Richard and Annie Mae Chapman Hammett, and husband of the late Syble Barnwell Hammett. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Hammett was retired from Geer Drug Company. He was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church and enjoyed his family, golf, yard work, gardening, watching the Atlanta Braves, and eating lunch at Ryan's. He was a gentle soul who always had something nice to say about everybody. Survivors include his son, W. C. "Dub" Hammett, Jr. (Barbara) of Chapin, SC; daughter, Linda Kiehl (Jerry) of Inman, SC; 6 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Brian Arant. Private entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum.
