Vivian Wynn

Vivian Jaynes McKesson Wynn, 90, of Abbeville, formerly of Spartanburg, died Monday, January 31, 2011. Born July 15, 1920 in Oconee County, SC, she was the daughter of Lucille Bruce and George Layon Jaynes. She enjoyed nearly 50 years of marriage to the late James H. McKesson and then to the late Robert L. Wynn, Jr. She was valedictorian of the McCormick High School Class of 1937. She attended Lander College on a scholarship graduating in 1941. She received the first job of anyone in the graduating class and was the first local person to teach in McCormick High School. After the death of James McKesson in 1966, she taught 4th grade at Fairforest Elementary School in Spartanburg for eight years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she taught children and later ministered to her peers as president of the Lydia Sunday School Class. She taught our family how to love and live a life close to the Lord, family and friends until the end. She is survived by two children, James H. McKesson, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Abbeville, SC and Anne M. Cross and her husband Lee of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Hal Cross, Jenny McKesson Risinger, Anne McKesson Burkes, and Jimmy McKesson; three great-grandchildren; and one sister Barbara Jaynes Douglas of McCormick. She was predeceased by a beloved granddaughter Gwen Cross and a brother George Bruce Jaynes. She is also survived by three step-sons, Robert L. Wynn, III, Barry D. Wynn, and Baxter M. Wynn; six step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Baxter M. Wynn. A private family burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
