Virginia Wilson

Virginia O'Sullivan Poteat Wilson, 93, formerly of Heather Drive, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Valley Falls Terrace. Born January 17, 1916, in the Cherokee Springs community, she was the daughter of the late James Isaac and Letitia Warren O'Sullivan. She was the wife of the late William Gerald "Jerry" Wilson and was first married to the late John Henry Poteat. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was retired from Sears Roebuck and Company after 26 years of service. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg and the Lydia Sunday School Class. Survivors include a daughter, Linda P. Smith of Spartanburg; a son, Larry A. Poteat and his wife Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC; a daughter-in-law, Patricia S. Poteat of Inman; six grandchildren, Bobby Smith, Robin Nugent, Kim Poteat, Andi Rogers, Allison Upchurch, and Joni Moss; and eight great-grandchildren, Sarah and Brittany Bitzas, Taylor and Austin Nugent, Cole and Jon Carter Rogers, Anna Upchurch, and Hudson Moss. She was predeceased by a son, Jon H. Poteat; a grandson, Constantine "Tino" Bitzas; a brother, Wofford O'Sullivan; and two sisters, Ruth O'Sullivan Williams and Lucille O'Sullivan Thompson. Graveside services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Cherokee Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside. Memorials may be made to the Jon H.
