Virginia Boring Shaffer, 99, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born December 6, 1917, in Johnson City, TN, she was the daughter of the late W. G. and Frances Smith Boring and wife of 56 years to the late William G. Shaffer. She was a very active member of Central United Methodist Church participating with her church Circle and the Altar Guild. Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Shaffer Worley of Spartanburg, SC; grandson, Charles Shaffer Worley (Marie) of Greenville, SC; great-grandchildren, Lawson, Peyton, and Davis; and nephews, Joseph Boring (Beth) and Bill Bonsor (Jane), all of Georgia. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Boring; sister, Mary-Lynn Boring McIntosh; and nephew, Allen McIntosh. A service honoring her memory will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Central United Methodist Church, by the Rev. Tom Norrell and the Rev. Luther Rickenbaker. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
