Virginia Miller

June 27, 1925 — July 10, 2012

Virginia "Ginny" Taylor Miller, 87, of Spartanburg, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at her home. Born June 27, 1925, in Minneapolis, MN, she was the daughter of the late William Brown and Minnie Fry Taylor. Ginny attended the Northrop School and graduated from Vassar College Class, of 1945-46. She went on to earn her Masters' degrees in both English and Education. Mrs. Miller dedicated her life to teaching. She first taught at the Crane School of Santa Barbara, CA. After moving to Spartanburg in 1957, she began teaching third grade, in 1958, at the Spartanburg Day School in the original Drayton "campus" and continued to do so until her retirement some 40 years later. During that time, she touched the lives of so many of Spartanburg's young leaders. A charter member of the Spartanburg Day School's Summa Cum Laude Society, Ginny also belonged to the Junior League of Spartanburg, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Daughters of the Confederacy, and The Episcopal Church of the Advent. Surviving is her beloved husband of over 60 years, Vincent E. Miller of Spartanburg, SC; and daughter, Margaret "Maggie" Miller Martin of Santa Rosa, CA. A private service will be held for Ginny in Columbia, TN, where she will be interred with her family. The family requests, in remembrance of Ginny, memorials may be made to the Virginia Miller Scholarship Fund, c/o Spartanburg Day School, 1701 Skylyn Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
