Virginia Kirkland

Virginia Louise Sims Kirkland, 98, of Spartanburg, SC went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. Born July 10, 1918 in Monetta, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Earle and Sallie Hite Sims. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was the devoted and loving wife of 54 years to the late John Cyril "J.C." Kirkland, who passed away on January 23, 1997. The middle of three daughters, Virginia grew up in a loving, Christian home. All three sisters loved getting together for family celebrations and their love and laughter are lasting memories that our family cherishes. Virginia was a gentle lady who was always smiling and has left a legacy of love for her family. Virginia was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, a member of the Carrie Littlejohn Sunday School class for over 40 years and then the Lydia Sunday School class. The love of her church family also included being involved in the Training Union and hosting fellowships for the youth in her home. She was the proud and loving mother of daughters, Patricia Kirkland Hardegree and husband, Mike of Columbus, NC; Janet Kirkland Dillard and husband, Ken of Spartanburg, SC; sons, John Cyril Kirkland, Jr. and wife, Patsy of Inman, SC; Earle Fletcher Kirkland and wife, Rhonda of Moore, SC. She was the proud grandmother of Pamela Lewis Covil of Pampa, TX; Cameron Dillard and wife, Amy of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Stephen Lewis and wife, Laura of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Heather Dillard Pack and husband Ryan of North Augusta, SC; Trey Kirkland of Spartanburg, SC; Virginia Kirkland Hardin and husband Stephen of Inman, SC; Mamie Dillard Boyter and husband Kevin of Spartanburg, SC; David Kirkland and wife, Stefanie, of Inman, SC; Erin Hardegree Denny and husband Mike of Atlanta, GA; Adam Hardegree and wife Laura of Jacksonville, FL; Will Kirkland of Moore, SC; Jonathan Kirkland of Moore, SC; and 23 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a granddaughter Sheila Diane Kirkland and her sisters, Marjorie S. Jordan and Eleanor S. Quattlebaum. Visitation will be 10:00 - 10:45 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ryan Pack and the Rev. Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
