Virginia Horton

Virginia Blackwell Horton, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at Summit Hills Skilled Nursing. Born November 30, 1921, in Cherokee County, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Fred Blackwell and Bernice Green Blackwell and the widow of Henry Melvin Horton. Mrs. Horton retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in Cowpens. She was a graduate of Chesnee High School and a member of Cowpens First Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, Kathy Horton Dickson of Cowpens, SC and Melvin Clyde Horton of Cayce, SC; grandchildren, Clyde Jr., Dawn, Alyson, and Lauren; and great-granddaughter, Caroline. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, October 6, 2016, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Ralph Jett.
