Virginia Holden

Virginia Kathryn "Kat" Mabry Holden, 87, of Spartanburg, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, at her home. Born June 17, 1925, in Spartanburg, she was the widow of Hubert Creswell Holden, and daughter of the late Samuel Herbert and Ola Peck Mabry. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A devoted mother, Mrs. Holden was retired from the U. S. Postal Service after 17 years of service and formerly worked for the Clifton Manufacturing Company. She was a lifelong devoted member of Clifton Second Baptist Church, director of WMU, a member of the church choir, a member of Eastern Star, and worked with Spartanburg District #3 PTA. Surviving are her daughters, Myra H. Wright and husband Ronnie of Spartanburg, SC, and Lisa H. Brigman and husband Nathan of Cowpens, SC; niece, Karen Thomason and husband Harold of Spartanburg, SC; several grand-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Paul V. Mabry and Furman L. Mabry. Visitation will be 1:00-2:15 PM Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Mike Stubblefield, the Rev. David Moore, and the Rev. William C. Howard. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clifton Second Baptist Church, 5045 Clifton-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307; or Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
