Virginia Herrin

November 24, 1932 — December 21, 2012

Virginia Long Herrin, of 105 Summit Hills Drive, Spartanburg, SC, peacefully went to her eternal home on Friday, December 21, 2012. Born November 24, 1932, in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Louise Bettis Long and Merl Maltby Long. She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Marshall Lee Herrin. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother and a woman of outstanding beauty, kindness and compassion. She worked alongside her husband at Herrin Bros. Coal and Ice Co. for over 25 years until her retirement in 1999. She graduated from Central High School in 1950 and attended Queens College where she was a member of the Class of 1954. Living in Charlotte, NC for the majority of her life, she later moved to Spartanburg, SC in 2007 to be near her two daughters. Virginia was a member of Sugaw Creek Presbyterian Church and later Covenant Presbyterian Church until her move to Spartanburg, SC, where she attended First Presbyterian Church. She was a caring and loving Christian woman who brought joy, love, and laughter to all who knew her. She is survived by her three loving children, Theresa H. Bowles (John) and Marsha H. Hood (Robin) both of Spartanburg, SC, and Merl Lee Herrin (Carole) of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Long Johnson; and five grandchildren, R. Herrin Hood (Amanda), Marshall Hood, McGhee Mann, Grace Herrin, Gloria Herrin; and a loving and devoted nurse, Marie Ross. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 23, 2012, in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC, conducted by the Rev. Walter Windley, IV.
