Virginia Hendrix

Virginia "Jenny" Gullatt Hendrix, 93, of Skylyn Place, formerly of Longbow Drive, passed away Monday, September 13, 2010 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born August 10, 1917 in Columbus, GA, she was the daughter of the late George A. and Maggie Anderson Gullatt. Her husband of 59 years was the late Rev. Marion H. Hendrix, former pastor of Cedar Spring Baptist Church in Spartanburg. Jenny taught Sunday School into her 80's, was active in W.M.U., both in her church and the Baptist Association, and taught many study courses in Spartanburg and Union Counties. She was highly recognized as a gifted Bible teacher. A cancer survivor of 32 years, she was feisty, fun, and full of life. "Mom-ee" is survived by two daughters, Marian Wilson of Greenville, SC and Jane (Leland) Strange of Lawrenceville, GA; two sons, Robert "Bob" (Anne) Hendrix of Greensboro, NC and J. David Hendrix of Spartanburg, SC; eight beloved grandchildren, Mark (Cathy) Strange, Cary (Heather) Strange, Ryan (Jill) Strange, all of Lawrenceville, GA, Rhett (Tracey) Wilson of Laurens, SC, Rob Hendrix of Greensboro, NC, Meredith Hendrix of Chicago, IL, Laurie (Daniel) Wybenga of Spartanburg, SC, and Tyler (Christine) Hendrix of Wilmington, NC. Added blessings to Mom-ee's life were her 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Farris of Jacksonville, FL and Martha Goodroe of Union Bridge, MD; a brother, Edward (Sylvia)) Gullatt of Huntsville, AL; a sister-in-law, Frances Hendrix of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Todd Lowe and the Rev. Dr. Rhett Hendrix Wilson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Escort will be members and former members of Jenny's Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Cedar Spring Baptist Church, 140 Cedar Springs Place, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
