Virginia Farr

June 26, 1946 — January 11, 2022

Virginia Allgood Farr passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at her home. Born and raised in Inman, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James Edward Allgood and Sara Blackman Allgood, as well as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and aunt.

Virginia graduated from Chapman High School, where she ranked third academically in her graduating class. She studied piano for over a decade with Dr. Alia Ross Lawson at Converse College. A flutist in the Chapman Band of Gold, she performed at the Kentucky Derby, the New Orleans Mardi Gras parade, and the New York World’s Fair. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Furman University and Master’s degree from Converse College. She was a member of the Inman United Methodist Church.

Virginia taught Spanish at Gaffney, Wade Hampton, and Boiling Springs High Schools. She was active in the Inman Garden Club where she served as president for many years. She appreciated and took great pleasure in flowers and plants, and her home and yard are a showcase of her passion. People who visited her home called it “The Happy House” because of the feelings it evoked.

Virginia lived a life of refinement and care for others. She was intelligent, well-traveled, and knowledgeable, inspiring those around her to grow and increase their knowledge. She was also creative and industrious, which she demonstrated in her talents as a seamstress, a crafter, and a teacher, and graciously shared those talents with others. A lifelong Clemson fan, she took great pleasure in watching and attending football games, but also supported college and professional teams in many different sports.

Survivors include her devoted husband of 52 years, Joseph Michael Farr; daughter, Ivy Farr McIntyre (Trevor); grandson, Remy McIntyre; sister, Loucinda Ruth Allgood; brother, Sam Allgood (Denise); cousin, Barbara Yonce; three nephews and a niece.

There will be a small gathering for immediate family members but no funeral or memorial service.

Memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice or to Epworth Children’s Home.
