Virginia Trusler Blackwood, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Mary Black Hospital. Born June 26, 1918, in Arkansas City, KS, she was the daughter of the late Ivan Harry and Gladys Fanzler Trusler, and widow of Herbert D. Blackwood, Sr. Mrs. Blackwood was a graduate of Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, and a longtime social worker for the American Red Cross. She was a very active member of First Presbyterian Church, the Purnell Sunday School Class, and the ladies Circle. Mrs. Blackwood was an avid bridge player, enjoyed line dancing, and working in her garden. She participated for many years in a Supper Club with her close friends. Surviving are her son, Herbert DeWitt Blackwood, Jr. (Patricia) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Blackwood of Greenville, SC, David Blackwood (Rebecca) of Pittsburgh PA, and Sean Philips (Rianne) of Austin, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Sylas and Cali. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Debbie Blackwood Philips; sister Dottie; and brother, Ivan. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 PM Friday, November 28, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 29, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by the Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Evans. Entombment will be in the church columbarium. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302.
